Effortless Effeminateness

Though Christian Dior showed many collections after his 'New Look' was shown to the world, the New Look silhouette is the most recognisable of the era as it was copied EVERYWHERE. Evening gowns, day dresses, you name it; it was probably the New Look silhouette.

(Source: tuppencehappenny.blogspot) A timeline of silhouettes after the war show the nipped in look Dior created carried on long after he created it; my favourite is 1954 as it seems so much more flattering and contemporary

It was a popular silhouette for day dresses - most of the time these were in florals (perhaps to escape the masculinity of utility wear in the 40's?) and this came around the time many women went back to their previous roles as looking after the home.

(Source: edelweisspatterns.org) Vogue patterns for day dresses - the florals really compliment the silhouette.

The 50's was such a feminine era - everything about it seems so girly; the makeup of the time was immaculate, and everything was so neat; people were taking care of themselves.

Vogue 1950 - This gives an idea of how razor-sharp the precision of the makeup was - it shows that no matter what time period you're in, humans will always strive for perfection.
