Invention, confusion

In the 30's a man named Dr Wallace Carothers was experimenting with polymers (chains of plastic molecules) to create something which would become one of the biggest innovations of the time - Nylon. It was the first synthetic fibre and was commercially produced in 1939 in the form of stockings. They were released as 'Nylons' and their popularity skyrocketed almost overnight due to the ease and strength they now provided. Nylon tights have stayed popular ever since

The fashions of the thirties were so varied that people referred to it as the 'fancy dress' era; couturiers were still inspired by many countries far and wide, and historical references were in abundance; it was as if everyone was taking on the role of a historical character when they got dressed.

With all the vast cultural references, different shapes and varying looks in fashion, there was a look for everyone, but all the lavish detailings (despite the poverty in the world) could not make up for the fact that the fashion industry was a little confused.
