The Swinging Sixties

The Swinging Sixties, especially in London, was a thriving hub of new and modern cultural influences in fashion such as the mod movement and music by The Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix. It was powered by the youths of the time who strove for independence and innovation,

The Rolling Stones are one of the most well-known bands in the world - they became extremely successful in America and were seen as some of the icons for the 'Counterculture' of the 60's, perhaps because of their rebellious ways.



At the forefront of fashion was Mary Quant. having started her business mid-50's, she had earned quite a name for herself and her chic, futuristic creations - dubbed the 'queen of mod fashion', she shortened skirts 'so women could run for the bus' and later introduced hotpants - it wasn't aiming to be provocative, it was to be functional, and so her simplistic shapes and geometric prints set the tone for some truly exciting fashions in the 60's
