Flower Power

Flower power was the slogan given to a passive and peaceful resistance against the Vietnam War, but also other violent events. It was adopted by a poet named Allen Ginsberg who wrote against the materialistic values of the world and the violence of the military.

(Source:wikimedia) This is one of the most powerful images to show the Flower Power protest methods - this man is so brave to stand up to those soldiers totally unarmed, and so close, too

He sought to transform how protests worked - he wanted a more peaceful and emotional approach (it reminds me of the phrase 'kill them with kindness'. Hippies took this on board and would dress in florals - row upon row of embroidered flowers on their shirts. Their style was vibrant and very 'in your face' - they had a message to put across and so they did, very visually. Flowers were braided into their tumbling locks of hair, and they gave flowers to the public and in protests to the opposing force (usually police officers) as a symbol of peace, hope and freedom.
