New Times; Good Times

Following the end of the war, a new sense of youthful hope had arrived and people were celebrating - embracing new possibilities and fashions. For the fashion industry, this meant business was booming, and therefore many fashion houses were rapidly expanding.

For many, the idea of fashion was new and exciting - many were becoming interested in it and now the fashion bug was widespread; everyone wanted to be part of the fashion world.

The king of the fashion world was now Christian Dior - he was the knight in shining armour for the haute couture world, as his 'New Look' caught worldwide attention and attracted many to flock to the haute couture houses of Paris, rescuing the industry from disappearing forever due to the harsh times of eras bygone.

His post war collection, the 'New Look' was worn by so many high status people - from 50's 'celebrities' to royalty, Dior's innovation was adored by many. Dior always named his collections, something I believe to be a sign of a great designer. His creations were so successful that increasing staff and his fashion house was essential in order to keep up with the demand.

Although I think the New Look collection, I much prefer his collection inspired by birds ('Envol') - the winged collars are such a fresh look to the fashion scene and the bustle like skirt is a nod to history whilst still giving women the grace of birds (not unlike McQueen would do 50 years onwards).

In following collections, Dior embraced the princess line (a silhouette starting at the bust and flaring out), horseshoe collars and straight skirts. His collections varied every time and though his style had a classic feel, it was innovative and exciting.

I think Christian Dior's work was so influential and true brilliance.
