The Iron Ladies

Across the world, feminism was sweeping in due to the new equal social attitudes - feminism was rising and powerful women were beginning to reach the top of their game. Many of these women included Indira Gandhi, who was the 3rd ever Prime Minister for India, Isabel Martinez de Peron, who was the first female president of Argentina.

However none compare to the iconic Margaret Thatcher. Her politics were uncompromising - she knew what she wanted for Britain, and she was going to get it. Many dislike Margaret Thatcher due to the fact that the Winter of Discontent (a series of strikes and protests) happened just after her leadership - many also believe she was the reason for the huge recession, inflation and high unemployment levels which came about at the end of the 70's.

She was a style icon - she believed in dressing comfortably, smartly and properly for the occasion - She had well tailored jackets and wore many power suits, in order to stay on top in a male dominated political world. Her advisers told her to dress less frumpish, and remove the pearls, but she did not remove her treasured pearls as they meant so much to her and so they became a key component of her iconic style. Thatchers most favoured colour was blue, and I think it made her look extremely regal; she looked like the Queen of politics.
