The New New Looks

Even though Levi Strauss had invented the jeans in 1873, they didn't reach their peak until the 50's, during which they were adopted by the youth of the time as their social uniform - companies such as Lee denim were rivals alongside the traditional denim brands. Many designers, even the couturiers, would state it was a brilliant innovation.

Though I have not owned a pair of jeans for 7 years, I think they're absolutely brilliant; they're so versatile, functional and if made correctly, hug and shape the legs to give them the best look possible. This would've been an interesting contrast to the huge floral dresses and the new look silhouette.

The New Look silhouette had a rival - Cristobal Balenciaga (whom Christian Dior referred to as 'the master of us all' went the opposite way to the nipped in silhouette and instead created the 'sack dress' - a shapeless garment which does not cling to the body at all.

Even Dior himself created a tunic dress - people were starting to tire of the same silhouette day in day out.
