The extravagant, leisurely and fun ways of the mid 20th century had an effect on music - rock and roll came out of the blues era with heavier instruments and with it a new carefree way of living; famous rock and roll artists were living the lifestyle on tour by playing to crowds and then relaxing in the van, perhaps with some drugs. Records were changing too - now they were smaller, and available to play on a jukebox - music was slowly becoming more and more available, and so was exposure to icons of the age.
